Amazon Review: Aquatic Arts Marimo Moss Ball

Welcome to our first Amazon Review! With Amazon becoming a universal marketplace, I figured it would be smart to showcase and properly review some of the aquarium products they may offer!

Today's review will be focusing on Marimo Moss balls from Aquatic Arts. These moss balls have always held a special place in my heart. They are incredibly easy to care for, slow growing, and improve water quality. So when I came across "6 Marimo Moss Ball" variety pack for only $12.95 with Amazon Prime?? I had to bite.

So lets back up a second, this reviewing process will be based on the following:

  • Shipping Time

  • Price

  • Packing

  • Quality of product

Each category will be rated out of 5 points with 20 being a perfect score.

With that being said, let's move on to our review. As a disclaimer, I have ordered directly from the Aquatic Arts website before with mixed results. This is my first time purchasing from their Amazon outlet.

Shipping Time: 3/5

The listing for this product specifies the product to be shipped through Amazon Prime. Amazon Prime generally indicates two day shipping. However when added to my cart and brought to check out, the order I was placing on Friday, wasn't even planned to arrive until the following Wednesday or Thursday. I'm sure the reason behind this was that prime covered the shipping costs but didn't offer a two-day shipment for this product. Which is fine, but the label is misleading and my product didn't arrive until the latest expected day being Thursday.

The product also arrived with the label of "Crystal from Plants for Pets". In the description of the Amazon listing, Aquatic Arts, boasts its products being directly to the customers from them. Upon further research it seems Plants for Pets is supporting a good cause but its another misleading detail I wasn't expecting. Its possible the two are partnered but once again this isn't specified anywhere and can be off putting to some who were expecting a product from "Aquatic Arts".

Price: 5/5

Marimo Moss Balls are incredibly expensive in your local fish stores. The next cheapest listing I found on Amazon were from a company called "Luffy". Their listing included 6 Marimo Moss balls at the sizes of pennies for around $7. Aquatic Arts provided us with multiple different sizes including one that was almost bigger than my fist!

Packaging: 5/5

The product came in a small box that was filled with some packing peanuts (it has been awhile since I've seen those!) and a plastic container that was slightly wet on the inside. The container comfortably held the condensed Marimo's on their little journey. The packaging also included a helpful care-sheet for those unfamiliar with Marimo Moss Ball care.

Quality of the Product: 5/5

Aquatic Arts did not disappoint. Instead of 6 Moss Balls, I received 8! I didn't think I would be swooning over some felt-like moss balls before, but seeing those deep green spheres hurdled up in a container melted my heart. I enjoyed taking them out and examining them size wise. Placing them in the aquarium was quite easy as well. They definitely wanted to float, so let them soak (like the instruction sheet recommends) or just let them float around your aquarium until they sink on their own!

Conclusion

Overall the amount of Marimo moss you receive from this purchase is unbelievably good. For those looking for an easy aquarium plant, gift for a friend, or even a vase pet. Marimo Moss balls from Aquatic Arts is a steal if you can afford to wait a week and aren't bothered by the description discrepancies. If you are interested in purchasing some for yourself, please use the following amazon link: https://amzn.to/2YX7nLd. Lyuda Aquatics is given a small percentage of your purchase when you buy through this link so we can keep making content like this! Please keep in mind, this doesn't mean I'm being endorsed by Aquatic Arts or Amazon. This is just a program that helps provide for small creators like us!
